A perfect low maintenance plant for a first time plant parent! ZZ Plants are slow growers, and will grow in nearly any environment and conditions. ZZ Plants have naturally smooth, shiny dark leaves that accumulate dust over t ime. Use a damp washcloth to clean you plant's leaves and restore their shine.
 
Grows best in bright, indirect light. Exposure to direct sunlight can cause burning to the leaves. Can grow in low light and bright light conditions as well, but can get leggy and look stretched if not given enough light.
  
Water thoroughly and deeply once the soil has completely dried out. Watering every few weeks should be adequate. Remember: it is better to underwater a ZZ Plant than to overwater it, as this plant will naturally store water in its rhizomes (part of its root system).
 
Because they are so slow growing, ZZ Plants do not need regular fertilizing. For optimal growth, fertilize with a 50/50 solution of liquid fertilizer and water once in Spring and once in mid-Summer.
  
Occasional pruning can keep a ZZ Plant from getting leggy and thin looking. You can prune off a couple inches of stem to help stagger the structure of your plant and make it look fuller. Use shears or scissors to make 45° angled cuts just above a leaf node (the part of the steam where the leaf grows).
